Application Guidelines: Graduate and Credential Programs
Students who are seeking graduate degrees, graduate certificates, and credentials must complete the online university application through Cal State Apply.
Applicants must complete all sections of this online application for admission to SF State. Your application for graduate study to SF State consists of a two-part review.
The complete admission process requires approximately 6-8 weeks from the application deadline.
Part I: The Division of Graduate Studies
Graduate Studies reviews applications for general university admission requirements and requires potential students to upload copies of transcripts from every college or university attended, including study abroad coursework, community college coursework even if transfer credit appears on your degree transcript. Applicants must submit clear legible copies of transcripts that document complete academic history.
Part II: The Department of Special Education
Once approved by the Division of Graduate Studies and the Credentials Services Office, the Department of Special Education faculty will review each application for program specific eligibility.
Following initial screening and review of applicant files, program faculty will select candidates to interview, based on the strengths of the application. Interviews will be conducted by faculty selection committees to assess the applicant’s communication skills and behaviors required to meet professional standards. Additional information may also be considered to assess the applicant’s professional qualities including test results, previous experience, and observations in coursework/fieldwork.
