Applying to Added Authorizations in Special Education

Admissions

The Department of Special Education & Communicative Disorders is authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialling (CTC) to offer three Added Authorizations for credentialled teachers in special education in the following areas:

Applicants for one of the above Added Authorizations must hold a valid Preliminary or Clear Education Specialist Credential or equivalent.  In addition, all applicants to graduate programs in Special Education are required to apply to the both Master of Arts Degree and Credential Programs.  Application to the Added Authorization only can be granted by petition.

Application Deadlines

Applications for fall semester are due March 15

Applications for spring semester are due October 15

Application Requirements for All Applicants

Applicants must fulfill the following admission requirements.

  • Students who hold a valid Preliminary or Clear Education Specialist Credential or equivalent
  • GPA: 3.0 overall in baccalaureate coursework
  • Written English Proficiency Requirement (for those applying to both the MA in Special Education and the Added Authorization)
     

Application Process

Step 1:

  • Complete a University application (CSU Mentor)
  • Submit original transcripts from all universities attended

Step 2:

  • Complete a Department application (Special Education).
    Select Added Authorization area
  • Submit original transcripts from all universities attended

Step 3:

After submitting your applications you can confirm your admission status on your
SFSU Gateway account.
