The Added Authorizations in Special Education are authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and are designed to provide advanced preparation for credentialed teachers who seek supplementary knowledge and skills, beyond their prerequisite teacher preparation programs. The AASE programs are a subset of the full preliminary teacher preparation programs that authorize the candidate to provide special education services within the speciality area listed on the AASE. To apply to an AASE program, candidates must hold or be eligible for a Preliminary or Clear Education Specialist Instruction Credential or equivalent. Upon completion of a CTC approved AASE program, including supervised field study, candidates may apply for the AASE in the specific area requested. The Department of Special Education & Communicative Disorders at San Francisco State University offers AASE programs in three areas, listed below.
Orthopedically Impaired Added Authorization (OI AA)
Early Childhood Added Authorization (ECSE AA) - (Program on Hold)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD AA) Added Authorization - (Program on Hold)
